Tax Law Changes & Industry Updates

Update from Muto, Vollucci & Co., Ltd.

We hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer, whether in New England or elsewhere! Now that our busiest time of year is behind us, we are at the time when we analyze the past tax season and look to make necessary changes at our firm, whether it be to create efficiencies, update technology, or provide new services.

We anticipate implementing new technologies including electronic signature options for e-file authorizations so you can sign from anywhere without needing a printer and fillable tax organizers to make providing your information quicker and easier.

We are also changing our accounting and tax software for the purpose of creating real-time synergies, which will allow us to work in a more productive manner.  While our end products may look different, the change in software will enable us to concentrate more on the areas that are of importance to you – business consulting and tax advice.

We will continue to provide tax consulting, tax preparation, as well as other accounting and bookkeeping services for all our clients without an increase in our hourly rates for 2024.  However, after closely examining our hours worked this past tax season and the processes used to prepare tax returns, we concluded that there is a need to set a minimum fee for our preparation of individual income tax returns to sustain the level of service, prompt attention, and access to the latest technologies that you have come to rely on.

Starting this upcoming tax season, we will be implementing a minimum tax preparation fee of $600 for any individual income tax return prepared by our office.  We are notifying you of this change well in advance to avoid any surprises next year.  We understand that some of you have less complex needs regarding your individual income tax return preparation and you may choose to pursue another tax preparation alternative for you or your children.  For those seeking a change, we will provide you with a simple records release form, upon request, to help with the transition.  Our firm’s mission remains consistent:  to concentrate our business on offering exceptional expertise to small and mid-sized closely held businesses and their owners, as well as to individuals with complex tax needs that require our specialized skills and knowledge.

Thank you for your understanding and continued trust in our services.
