QuickBooks Desktop Changes

Some significant changes are coming for QuickBooks Desktop customers this year.  As of September 30, 2024, Intuit (the makers of QuickBooks) will no longer sell NEW subscriptions of the following Desktop products in the US:

  • QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus

  • QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus

  • QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus

  • QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll

Intuit is strongly recommending that all Desktop customers move to QuickBooks Online.  However, they realize that some customers may prefer to stay on Desktop.  Therefore, if you have a non-subscription version of Desktop Pro, Premier, or Mac and want to remain on Desktop, it is recommended that you purchase a QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Mac Plus subscription before September 30, 2024.  Please note, if your current product is no longer supported, you will no longer receive critical security updates (which may expose your financial data to security vulnerabilities), and you will not have access to live technical support if you run into problems or try to access any of the other Intuit add-on services that can be integrated with Desktop.

It is important to note that existing subscribers are not impacted by these changes.  Existing Desktop Plus and Desktop Payroll subscribers can continue to renew their subscriptions after September 30, 2024.  Intuit will continue to provide security updates, product updates, and support for existing subscribers.

Also, if you are on Pro Plus or Premier Plus and have been considering Desktop Payroll, Intuit recommends that you purchase a QuickBooks Enhanced Payroll subscription before September 30, 2024 or upgrade to Enterprise Gold, Platinum, or Diamond, which include integrated Payroll and can be purchased after September 30, 2024.  Online Payroll is available to Desktop clients as a standalone full-service payroll solution.  Contact Intuit directly to learn more.

QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise products are not impacted by this change. Those customers can continue to purchase Enterprise subscriptions after September 30, 2024.

So, what should you do?  Basically, if you are on a non-subscription Desktop version right now, you should do either of the following before September 30, 2024:

  • Migrate to QuickBooks Online, or

  • Purchase a subscription version of Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Mac Plus

If you would like to upgrade to the Online version, please contact Sheri, our in-house QuickBooks Certified Pro-Advisor, who will put you in contact with our Intuit Account Executive to begin the migration process.

If you would like to purchase a subscription version of Desktop, contact the Intuit sales team directly at (855) 532-3923.
